Earlier this year we discovered Casa Cook Rhodes on one of our forays through the interwebs. The newly reopened boutique hotel caught our attention with its’ elegant white architecture and bohemian flair and the imagery suggested we might enjoy ourselves between bearded, tattooed hipsters and deliciously decorated pita bread.
Strictly speaking it’s pretty obvious that Thomas Cook Group tries to attract a young and digital target audience that values aesthetics and is into constantly instagramming their food. But who am I kidding: I fall right into the target group and I loved it. While the biggest tourist blocks of Rhodes are cramped into the nearest bay, the concept resort is the last hotel in the area next to a small mountain range with views unspoiled by ugly hotels or manmade tourist attractions. The premises are devided into small private bungalows with shared pools and a main area that contains a restaurant, gym, bar and a pool that never felt crowded during our stay. A DJ tried his best to provide us with shallow beats during the night and staff was super friendly, helpful and always up for a chat.
Hotel information and restaurant menu come in a nicely designed magazine. I have to admit I stole one as a souvenir.
The room was tastefully decorated and I loved small details such as the tongue-in-cheeck descriptions in the hotel directory or on the laundry bag.
If guests are hungry for more, the concept store located next to the lobby offers the same homeware that can be found on the premises.
If I had to point out the most striking features of Casa Cook Rhodes I’d mention food in the same breath as design and laid back atmosphere. The menu featured simple but well made greek dishes and the breakfast buffet had a great selection of fresh fruit and baked goods. The drinks also came with a nice twist – I’m looking at you, green-tea-mojito.
You find more amazing photos of Casa Cook over at Lambs and Lions who developed the brand concept – a contemporary design that seems to be pretty popular on the Greek islands at the moment.
In the meantime Casa Cook opened its’ newest outpost on the island of Kos and I can’t wait to discover more hotels of the same breed.
